Key Take-Aways next ten days:
- Mostly below normal temperatures – with a few days of seasonable warmth.
- No storm threats this week – minor system Friday night.
- Mostly seasonable temps in the 7-14 day timeframe
Discussion: low pressure will depart across Northern Maine this afternoon while a push of colder air brings some chilly conditions into the middle of the week. Broad upper-level low pressure will contribute to a bit of cloudiness but surface high pressure well to our West will make for generally bright and dry conditions. Northern areas will see heavier clouds and a few snow showers or flurries over the next 36 to 48 hours.
Tomorrow will bring below normal temps to much of the Northeast with the biggest temperature departures across Pennsylvania and Western New York. See graphic below.
We do see moderating temperatures late this week and into the open of the weekend with near seasonable temperatures in many areas by Friday afternoon. The following graphic shows temperature departures on Friday afternoon with most areas within 2° of normal high temperatures.
The next storm system will bring some light precipitation and perhaps some mountain snow to parts of the Northeast Friday night into early Saturday. This system will be followed by a push of seasonably cool air and temperatures will be close to – if not a bit below normal through most of the first week of December. The longer range includes near normal conditions – but we still expect some significant changes to the overall pattern to evolve later in December with the risk of a cold and snowy holiday period. We will continue to keep close tabs on this but through the next 10 days, we do not see any significant weather threats, nor do we see any significant charges of colder air.
The last graphic today shows temperature departures for the middle of next week on Wednesday afternoon December 6th.
